Holding On While Letting Go

April 14, 2026

On a recent weekend, my daughter, son-in-law, and 15-month-old grandson, Hugo, came home for a visit. Like many grandparents, I find myself quietly amazed by every new skill and milestone—especially right now, as Hugo is learning to walk.

On our walk to a local coffee shop, Hugo was eager to explore. His tiny steps were unsteady but determined. Always, one hand was reaching for support—his mother’s or father’s. And always, one of them was reaching back, ready to offer it.

There’s a tenderness in that reach. It’s instinctive, born of both trust and love.

As I watched my daughter instinctively keep her hand close, I saw something deeper—something that reminded me of the work we do every day at One Financial Services.

A New Phase Requires Reaching

The transition to retirement, like learning to walk, can feel both exciting and unfamiliar. There are new skills to learn. New routines to build. And there’s uncertainty around every corner.

  •   “How will this actually work?”
  •   “Will the money show up in my account each month?”
  •   “What about taxes?”
  •   “What if the market drops—will we still be okay?”

These questions are not signs of failure or weakness. They’re signs that you’re doing something new. They’re reminders that when the terrain shifts, even just a little, having someone to reach for matters.

The Power of a Steady Hand

At One Financial, we’re in the business of offering that steady hand.

Not just with investments or tax strategy or paperwork—but in the way we show up when our clients need reassurance.

We know that retirement is not just a financial event. It’s a human one.

You’re letting go of a career. A routine. A sense of control that was often tied to your ability to earn, save, and self-direct.

And in this “letting go” phase, we don’t expect you to walk alone.

We’ll guide you through the mechanics:

  •   How your monthly cash flow gets to your bank account
  •   What taxes to expect and how to prepare for them
  •   How market volatility impacts—or doesn’t impact—your long-term plan
  •   And how to adjust along the way, because flexibility is part of every good plan

Love Looks Like Support

Watching my daughter hold Hugo’s hand, I saw a powerful truth:

Love doesn’t always mean holding on tightly. Sometimes it means walking beside someone as they learn how to move forward with confidence.

That’s what we do for our clients.

We’re not here to control your journey—but to walk with you, step by step, until you feel more stable, more sure, more ready to walk on your own.

And even then, our hand will never be far away.

At One Financial, we’re not just financial advisors. We’re walking partners for the journey ahead.

And if you’re just beginning your own letting go phase, we’re ready when you are—steady, supportive, and here to help you take that next step with confidence.
